The extension of a global variational Optic Flow estimation covers the following properties:
- dense and smooth displacement vector fields by a globally convex variational ansatz,
- better numerical accuracy by
- a discretization of the differential equations based on Finite Elements (FEM),
- a multi-resolution approach,
- extended applicability compared to the classical approach:
- only two images of a time-sequence are necessary,
- the time-gap between images may be comparable large,
- the approach can still be applied on bigger pixel displacements.
